Saddleworld Expands to Tamworth

Tamworth Rural Saddleworld

It is with great pleasure that Saddleworld welcomes a new store.  Tamworth Rural Saddleworld is the latest member of the strong Australia-wide group.

Callan Orman is the Operations Manager for the business –but has performed many roles over his 13 years with the company.

Callan explained, “This is a very large business with a proud history of serving the farming, equine and rural community of the Tamworth region for the past 75 years.  We started out as a cooperative, but went through privatization five years ago and are now a privately listed public company that has become one of the largest stock feed and rural suppliers in NSW!”

“Around 7 years ago we made a decision to “ramp up” the equine arm of the business and this area has gone from strength to strength.  The decision to join Saddleworld was made so that we could better service the equine community by taking advantage of Saddleworld’s excellent product range and the buying power that assures very competitive prices and the comprehensive range of products that modern horse owners are looking for.” Callan enthused.

“Tamworth is an area offering a wide variety of options for horse enthusiasts.  The area has a strong professional representation and we also cater for hobbyists – juniors and adult pleasure riders, right through to Olympic hopefuls.  Everyone knows that Tamworth is the heart of “country and western” and we have a strong tradition in the western pursuits made popular by the amazing Quarter Horse.  In more recent times, riders campaigning in the Olympic disciplines, breed classes and horse shows have made Tamworth their base.  The inclusion of a state-of-the-art indoor facility - Australian Rural and Livestock Event Centre - as seen many equestrian events choose Tamworth as their preferred venue.”

“We have 20 people on our staff with 3 dedicated equine specialists.  Our Branch Manager Adam Rowland is himself a fine horseman and rider, with a passion for horse sports.  Adam is a “Green Coat” (Mounted Steward) at the Sydney Royal Show and he spends many weekends at shows and competitions helping the locals to run a successful event. Adam started his early interest in horses as a track rider and later took on Tent Pegging. Adam has proved his skill as a rider and trainer by taking National titles in this very competitive sport.”

“Adam is backed up by two very special ladies with a huge depth of equestrian knowledge.  Alison Newcombe is a capable horsewoman with a very broad knowledge of horses, riding, equipment and horse husbandry.  Alison’s expertise was gained over the 20+ years she has spent as the Deputy Chief Zone Instructor at Pony Clubs in the district. Alison has also been a registered harness racing and TB racing trainer and brings this experience to her role.”

“Liz Stephenson has a background as a breeder of show horses and ponies.  She understands the various jobs in running a stud and is experienced in mare care and foaling down, care of young stock, training and show ring preparation and presentation.  Liz knows the demands of the professional barn as she started out as a Polo groom in a busy UK stable.  Liz has enjoyed great success with her Welsh Section B and Australian Ponies and her achievements include State and National titles. Liz is fantastic in these special areas and the three people in our Saddleworld store are full of enthusiasm for the opportunity to work with like-minded members, which will help Tamworth Rural Saddleworld to bring an extra dimension of service to the local equine community.”

“We are still undergoing renovations and upgrades to the store and look forward to welcoming people to our new Saddleworld look and feel.  Thank you for the opportunity to share this great news with a wider audience,” concluded Callan.
