Let the Championships begin
The Saddleworld Australian Dressage Championships got off to a strong start on Thursday and it was Heath Ryan and the ever impressive Regardez Moi (left) who claimed the hotly contested Intermediate II Championships. The hard to beat duo were the very last competitors in the class and finished with a score of 67.37. Earlier in the competition Ryan was sitting in first position on his second entry Utopian Cardinal, but Queenslander Tor Van Den Berge and Donna Bonita rode a smart test to receive a score of 66.29 which ultimately saw Utopian Cardinal finish in third with a score of 65.89% and Donna Bonita second.
Over 30 competitors took part in the Prix St Georges Championship, and the eventual winner was Rodney Martin and SPH Sonata Hit. The combination was the only among the field to crack the 70 percent mark receiving a score of 70.26. Judy Dierks and Diamond Star followed in second position on a score of 69.79 while Gina Montgomery and Stedinger followed in third position with a score of 69.24.
Day two of the Para-Equestrian competition got underway bright and early this morning and tomorrow the riders will enjoy a rest day ahead of Saturday’s Freestyle competition.
The Grade Two Para-Equestrian Championship Test was won by Elizabeth Skinner and Freedom Spyda who finished with a score of 66.48. Second and third place were separated by a mere 0.238 of a percent with Victoria Davies and Andaluka Elegido landing second place whilst Rosie Cole and Spirit of Scooterbar finishing in third position.Hannah Dodd and Fourwinds Bijou won the Para-Equestrian Grade 3 Championship Test with a score of 63.58. In second position was Sui Watts riding Bolagamy Accession and Samantha Hawes and Mahazin Golden Shadow landed third position.
Caitlin Radford and her horse named Boy claimed first position in the grade 4 Championship Test with a score of 63.13, whilst Kaye Hannan and Lundstorm finished a close second on a score of 62.06.Friday is sure to be an exciting day as Dressage riders from all corners of the country compete in the Advanced, FEI Intermediate, Young Rider Team Test and the Grand Prix.
