Eurohunter Helmets – Safety and Style,
Saddleworld has you covered!
- “Saddleworld Media”

It is almost a decade since Insurance and Public Liability issues forced changes to the rules and requirements of equestrian sport, and riders are now required to wear an Approved Safety helmet, in the warm-up area and competition arena.

While the initial response from riders was mixed, with some welcoming a more diligent approach to safety, and other sectors voicing their disappointment that safety would be put ahead of style.

Public Liability and Personal Risk insurers drove change and competition organisers were responsible for compliance.

When dressage riders all around the world heard of the serious fall of US Grand Prix rider Courtney King-Dye, attitudes changed. The successful US Olympian then aged 33, from New Milford USA was training her horse - she was not wearing a helmet, as at that time, most dressage riders did not consider it necessary wear helmets. The horse tripped and Courtney fell on her head, suffering a traumatic brain injury. She was in a coma for a month. She has regained many skills but has not returned to her former status in the sport.

Courtney has thrown her support into fielding change and made dressage riders realise that ALL equestrian sport can be dangerous and it is worth the precaution of wearing an Approved Safety Helmet.
